FLYING

In the ATC any cadet who is 1st class or above is eligible to get Air Experience Flying (AEF). This is done at the closest AEF base to that squadron. The ATC now uses the Bulldog for AEF's.

The Bulldog, the aircraft currently being used for air experience flying in the ATC.

During AEF, cadets are given a chance to take control of the aircraft, and do aerobatics if they are confident enough.

As well as Air Experience Flying, cadets are sometimes lucky enough to get the opportunity to fly in regular RAF aircraft.

Once a cadet is seventeen years old, he or she is eligible for a flying scholarship. The RAF allocates flying scholarships to young people [usually ATC cadets], so that they can learn to fly a civil aircraft solo for no charge. For anyone wanting to get a private pilot's license [PPL], this drastically reduces the hours required. The RAF also has a Pilot / Navigator scholarship scheme, which involves slightly fewer flying hours.
